BSIR Paper Title
Formation as Social Engagement: A Baptist Theology of Prison Education
Jared R. Lee is Assistant Professor of Christian Studies and Assistant Director of the Prison
Divinity Program at Oklahoma Baptist University. He is completing a Ph.D. in Historical and
Systematic Theological Studies at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and holds an
M.Div. with biblical languages from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. His research
engages early Christian hermeneutics, with particular attention to Athanasius and pro-Nicene
Trinitarian theology, and considers how Baptist theological commitments shape practices of
moral formation within carceral institutions. He recently presented Rehearing Nicaea: The 325
Creed as an Exegetical Synthesis of Divine Dialogue at the 2026 McMaster Exploring Early
Christianity Conference. Prior to his academic appointment, he served for over a decade in
pastoral ministry and continues to serve on the board of a mission organization partnering with
churches and families in Kenya.
