Between the Pulpit and the Blackboard: From Social Mission to Elitization in the History of Graciosa Baptist School (1980-2000)
Eduard Henry Lui is a PhD candidate in History at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), where he also completed his Master’s degree in Education and his undergraduate degree in History. He is a public servant at the Federal Institute of Paraná (IFPR), working at the intersection of History, Religion, and Culture. His current research examines the press, congregational music, and the formation of Baptist identity in Republican Brazil. He is the author of educational materials adopted by public school systems in several Brazilian states and is associated with research projects on religious memory and the circulation of Protestant ideas in Brazil. He has published articles and book chapters on the history of Protestantism, denominational identity, and the role of the press and hymnody in the social and cultural insertion of Protestantism. He is currently conducting archival research at Baylor University (USA) and the Southern Baptist Historical Library & Archives, analyzing correspondence and publications of Baptist missionaries in Brazil.
